addressing misconceptions

Performing Arts students:

I'm sorry that the PAT demo wasn't as hands-on as I anticipated. The PAT tool was suppose to be done by last week so I thought that it would certainly be functioning today. If the Mac version is working next class I will schedule another demo where you can analyze your videos.
Family and Consumer Science Students:

If you chose to do the alternative assignment and you brought your digital video to class today and turned in the paper saying you did like I asked - you can consider that assignment (Video Modeling Review assignment) completed in full. You should begin right away on the last projects related to the technology rich lesson plan because they will not turn out well if left to the last minute.

!!There were some rumors going around that this alternative assignment replaced the student project example for the technology rich lesson plan - this is NOT true. This assignment was an alternative for the Video Modeling Review assignment.

PLEASE take time to read through the remaining assignments in the syllabus - they are not due until the end of the class - but you cannot afford to wait until then to start on them.

Alternative to Video Modeling Review Assignment

You are welcome to look for videos online of teachers using technology to teach in your topic area. However, I'm not sure how many there are so here is the alternative for you:

Learn about the Performance Analysis Tool (PAT):
1) you will have to take a some digital video footage of yourself, a friend, or student performing a skill in your content area (feel free to contact me to talk about ideas)
2) you will bring the digital video with you to class on the week the Video Modeling Review is due
3) also come to class with some assessment criteria that you want to look for in the video (think of what events you would look for in trying to identify a quality performance)
4) In class we will introduce you to PAT and show you how to use this tool developed by CID to analyze the performance

You will need to bring the digital video to class. You can check out a digital video recorder from the TLSC, or the HBLL library in the commons.

If your video is in VHS format - you will need to go to the TLSC and get some help converting it from VHS to digital format.

Health Bytes student video example

I just found an example of a student video poject related to health education at the Apple website:

Public service announcement on health topics by youth called "Health Bytes"

It might help to give you ideas for your own lesson plans.
